153 Fort McGilvery, Va. Monday, Dec. 12th 1864 Immediately in rear of our fort is a tombstone with the following inscription: "Here layeth the body of Sir William Skipwith Barronet, who deceased February 25th 1764 aged 56 years He decended from Sir Henry Skipwith of Prestwood in Lancastershire. Created Barronet by King James, the third. Was honored with King Charles the 1st. Commissioned for rasing men against the Usurping Powers and proved Loyal to his King so that he was deprived of his Estate by the Usurper, which occasioned his and his sons death except Sir Grey Skipwith Grand father to the above said William who was
