162 Fort McGilvery, Va. Tuesday, Dec. 27th 1864 Very heavy firing Wrote Jones & Co., Phila. Pa. for price of a good Uniform. Captain Burkhart, was put under arrest for drunkeness. Wednesday 28th Very heavy firing during the day. Owing to the recent rains very little can be done on account of the ground being almost a sea of mud. Bought a sword and belt of John S. Eckel for which I paid him $20 00 Thursday 29th Was on picket last night and today. Two rebels came in on our line last night and surrendered. Rec'd a letter from A. Grander. Disagreeable last night.
