205 Head Quarters 50th Regt. P.V.V. near Browders Crossing, Va., - Monday, April 10th 1865 - Received a despatch stating that General Lee surrendered, to General U. S. Grant, yesterday at two oclock P.M. and that the Army of Northern Virginia is no more. After the despatch was read the boys became quite enthusiastic in their cheering. - Sunday April 16th 1865 - Received Commission as Adjutant of the 50th Regiment Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers. Several of the other officers received commissions for higher rank viz - Lieut. Col. Wm. H. Telford as Colonel Major S. K. Schwenk as Lieut. Col. Captain Brumm as Major Frank H. Forbers, Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant as 2nd Lieutenant of Company E.
