232 years I have been honored by my Comrades in many ways. Sept 22d 1887, Dr. S.C. Ermentrout, Chairman of the Entertainment Committee of the two posts wrote me a note using this language: "In all my dealings with you I have found you honest, square and manly. Were all the members of the G.A.R. as gentlemanly and fair minded as you are the two Posts in this city would be truly linked in the bonds of F.C.& L. On the breaking out of the war with Spain our Quarter-Master, H.M.M. Richards tendered his services to the Government and was appointed Lieutenant in the Navy. I then served as Quarter-Master of the Post until his return which occurred in December of the following year.
