May, TUESDAY, 24, 1864. arose @ 3 oClock Am, started out @ 6 am Crossed the mountain & encamped for the had Considerable rain in the night. Crossed the Etowah on the 23rd, WEDNESDAY, 25 started @ 7 am, had very strict orders about foraging had some fighting about noon had some very hard fighting about dark drove the Rebs had a very hard rain storm THURSDAY, 26. was awakened in the morning by several musket balls passing over my head had some fighting all day & laid in line of battle all night on our arms
