July, TUESDAY, 5, 1864 arose early & took some soup for breakfast marched about 7 1/2 am. advanced about 3 or 4 miles Climbed a Tree where I Could see Atlanta WEDNESDAY, 6. very hot weather moved to The left about 3 or 4 miles stayed over night in an open field THURSDAY 7. had just got a good tent put up when we were ordered to march moved up to the front &. I was detailed on picket
