July, FRIDAY, 8, 1864. was relieved from picket in the afternoon went out in the morning in front of the picket about 1/4 mile & saw one Reb. went in swimming SATURDAY, 9. arose in the morning went to the Creek &. washed &. wrote a letter to John washed all my Clothes except jacket &. boiled them SUNDAY, 10. had orders to march at daylight but finding that the Rebs. had retreated across the River we did not move. our pickets advanced to the River
