July, SATURDAY, 23, 1864. very fine weather. recd. a package from home containing a shirt wrote a letter to Albert were ordered to fall in 2 or 3 times on Acct of the enemys Skirmishers advancing but had no attack at dark had a 20 lb. parrots firing on Atlanta every 5 minutes all night SUNDAY, 24. had very nice weather rather warm, now & then shells passing over our heads recd. news of Carpenters death @ Chattanooga was on fatigue building breastworks recd. a letter from Albert MONDAY, 25. was on fatigue had very fine weather was on fatigue building breastworks in front of our line worked nearly all night
