Camp of 2nd Iowa Regt. [Trouton?] Mo. Aug 20/61 My dear darling Wife: Again I am at leasure and again I will undertake to write you a short letter. If you get more letters from me than you find time to read, please forgive me, for the reason that it is the most pleasant thing I can do, and you know you ought to indulge me in my peculier notions, especially when they do confer so much happiness upon me. But I guess I have joked you enough about that matter. How is my blessed family this morning? Is my wife so she can set up? O I would give all my wages to know the true state of facts. God be merciful unto them.
