H'd Qr's 2 Iowa Infty Pulaski Tenn Nov 28th 1863 My dear darling wife: I am well and hearty and feel just as fine as a lark. This morning I got up early and in my warm cozy tent took a nice bath and now I am just as neat with my nice clean woolen clothes on, as you ever saw me. O so fairly do I feel, wish I had a sweet kiss from that red pouty lip. Wonder if I would be favored with one were I at home? Yesterday Major Howard came over to see me, and he asked me if you were coming down this winter? I told him no, that you were taking music lessons and studying very hard and that you thought best to stay at home the winter and improve your mind as much as possible. Said he "it must be very nice to have a wife who takes such an interest in her own self improvement after she becomes a wife" He further remarked that it is very rarely the case that they retain their ambition to arrive at any excellence after marriage." How proud it made me, and happy. Thank God for you my wife. Bless your noble heart
