H & S Co. 136th Med Regt. Camp Claiborne, La July 25, 1941 My dearest! Just a few lines to let you know I am thinking of you and hoping you are well and happy. Lt. Wingert has gone on his leave of absence (it is "leave of absence": for an officer and "furlough" for an enlisted man) and Maj. Jenkins is out in the field with the troops. So is Lt. Langdon, so there aren't many officers around headquarters. Well, we are hearing lots of rumors now - that we are going to South America the 15th of August via Charleston, S.C.: that we are going to San Diego, Calf and lots of others. But I think, without question, that we will complete our maneuvers and then maybe we will be moved to some joint for guard duty. They are still working on my commission but am rather dubious. If I don't get it then at the end of the year, I think I will come home. Kind of changes my plans and disappoints me terribly but guess I should have started a long time ago on this military stuff so as to have gotten a good start before getting too old to start.
