H & S Co, 136th Med Regt. In the Field - Pineville, La. APO 34, Camp Claiborne, La. Friday, Sept. 26, 1941. My Dear Dorothea: We have moved from the Fair Oaks Dairy at the edge of Alex to the pine grove at Pineville, La. We are across the Red River from Alex and in a wonderful grove of big jack pine trees. However, the good people of Pineville have made this their dumping ground and there were old tin cans, rubber tires, brick bats, etc laying around which we had to clean up before we could pitch our camp. But it was dry here and we had rakes and shovels and a piece of canvas. Four boys took hold of the four corners and then the rest of us tossed the cans in the center and when full it was carried to the dump. We dug a big hole and put the cans in it. We had ice cream for supper. Everyone is out of money and can't borrow any because no one has any. We had a good trip over here as we stayed 15 feet behind the preceding vehicle and came right through the main street of Alex and across the Pineville bridge. I am sure you recall where it was.
