H & S Co, 136th Med Regt In the field, 1 mi S Alex, La APO 34, Camp Claiborn, La Thursday, Sept 25, 1941 My dear Dorothea: We moved from the Negro schoolhouse at Bunkie to this place which is at the Fair Oaks Dairy on the south edge edge of Alexandria. We moved about 10:00 and came through the edge of Alex. There were three little Negro boys came over to the school and the soldiers got them to dance. They used the school piano. Then we had to move. We are located in the pasture and under a big pecan tree evidently a wild one, but it has lots of green nuts on that are starting to fall off. After dinner, we took the jeep and went to town looking for the Army Post Office 34. We didn't get army mail at Bunkie - seems that we lost a day an account of change of Post Offices. But I expect two letters here. While we were in Alex trying to find APO 34, which is located along the Railroad near the ration supply, it began to rain and it surely did pour. When we returned to Camp, they had put the two tents and were just soaking wet. So we just sat in the
