was wet or green and took all the heat to dry out the wood to keep the fire going. Griff and I got in the back of an ambulance and played a couple of games of chess. It rained to beat the band again. One of the natives came over to visit with his horse and buggy and I asked him to eat with us. He was 31 and married - a boy 8 and a girl 1. He has a little farm and puts in about 6 to 8 acres of cotton each year. A very poor crop this year. Also this is a better community that up around Zimmerman and they fence in the crops and stock. They talk a colloquial French here and there were a lot of things he couldn't tell me what he wanted to say except in French and I couldn't tell what he meant by that. A big tree blew over last night and came very close to Strawsy and Lindaman. Then they killed a snake in their tent - a "Grey" snake - which was colored green and black - non-poisonous and kills other snakes and eats
