much time. I'm glad Cliffie Julian is better and hope he continues to improve. I think I can get home the fore-part or middle of October. The rumor is that we will be through with the maneuver about the 20th and will go back to Camp then. But so far, it is only a rumor. I went to Oakdale last night. It is a town of about 1500 and there must have been about 5000-6000 soldiers there. The stores were so crowded that the merchants finally closed them and waited on the ones inside and then would let them out and a few more in. I waited in the barber shop from 3:00 until 6:00 to get a shave and then took a free bath (U.S.O.) It was cold water. We deposited 25¢ & they gave us a towel. Then when we returned the towel they refunded our 25¢. Not a very nice shower, but guess they were crowded. Bought a tooth brush and towel and left a roll of film to be developed. The City Marshall shot and killed a civilian while I was there. Seems there was a quarrel and the civilian had been drinking but everyone thought the Marshall shot too soon. He has killed five or six men while he has been in office and seems to like it.
