H&S Co, 136th Med Regt In bivouac - 6 mi E DeRidder La Thursday, Sept. 4, 1941 My dearest Dorothea: Well, I didn't get any letter off to you yesterday. I intended to but there was a lot of work came in the evening before and we didn't get back to Camp from up around Cravens until around 10:30 and was very tired. So I went to bed without clearing the desk. Then yesterday morning there was a chance to go to Alex. I had about $300 in cash which I had written checks on and had to get the money deposited, so had to go at the first opportunity. So I went. It was terribly rough and we didn't get to Claiborne until 12:00 noon. We ate and then the Captain sent the Jeep to take Lt Thayer over to Le Compte to see his folks and me on in to Alex. There was a very big crowd in the bank and had to wait quite a while before I got to the window. Then hurried right on back. We got back to here about 7:00 and Capt Baker took us up to his company for supper. We had fried eggs - meat balls, spaghetti and coffee. Tasted very good. I was so tired I just crawled in to bed. I got your letter just as I was leaving for my tent for the mail came in early. There was very heavy rain
