and our tent came down in the rain. So after the rain was over, we had to go down and raise the tent. Fortunately, the ward tent in which we had headquarters stood up and our equipment was dry. We had to dig a trench around the tent to drain off the rain. And it rained for quite a while and about three inches. Tuesday night, after the maneuver was over at 4:00, we were still sitting there waiting for orders to move back to the assembly area. It got supper time and no orders. Finally Major Jenkins gave me a $1.00 and told me to go down to the country store at La Camp and get some grub. I got a 10¢ and 5¢ can of tomatoes, a 10¢ & 5¢ can of salmon, a 10¢ box of crackers (they didn't have any bread) (nor cheese) a 10¢ jar of peanut butter a 10¢ jar of apple butter a 1/2# of butter (25¢) 2 10¢ boxes of cookies. Then had to buy a 10¢ can opener. We fed Major Jenkins, Sedlocek, Lt. Wingert and Thayer & myself, Skewes, Haskell, Wellman, McCall and 3 fellows from the 135th Med Regt. Not too full, of course, but enough to sustain life and I thought it was a pretty fair meal for the amount of money. Then we got orders to return to camp and came back over the chucky, bumpy, rough gravel roads to Assembly Area. The old truck roared
