to turn it off & on - so have to disconnect a wire. He said it was a very cheap and efficient car to operate but that it had been out so long the wiring was defective and should all be renewed and it would be okay. But he did not have it there nor any switch. So we beat it for home & put it in a stall & left it. Ted was busy so another fellow went with me. We were both surprised at Detroit being so large. Also that it is not on a lake. I thought it was on one of the Great Lakes. And such a lot of cars as they are driving there. You wouldn't know there was a war on. Not many soldiers in Detroit as the army doesn't have many camps there and the area is mostly defense camps. Some sailors and some Canadian flyers. The buildings are just as big as in other big cities and very much the same. Meals are very high - $1.25 to $1.85 for the plainest steak. And everything else is proportion. We were to have a parade Friday and they posponed it and gave us drill instead. Then our inspection Saturday was a parade.
