Burlington, Ia. Apr 5, 1943 Mon. 6:30 a.m. My Dearest, Will write you now before the kids get up. I got up a little early this morning as there are some things I have to do to get the housecleaning going. I sort of look for the paper hangers to come today. I am going to have them clean all the paper they can and then what has to be papered, they can do last. I know the dining room downstairs and the kitchen & bath will have to be done over. They are terrible. I had a very busy day yesterday. We all went to sunday school & stayed for church. We took the kiddies up with us & they were real good. They got pretty tired before it was over though. Rev. Smith said he had had a letter from you and seemed to be pleased about it. He taught our class yesterday and Utley & his wife were in Chicago & left them the baby to take care of. I guess they had some time. Marie heard from Mac, but not so many. He is head man on constructing an air base on top of a mountain. I guess it is right behind the lines. He said they had to watch for bombs, parachutists, etc. Very thrilling I guess. Talked to Ruth Wright last night and her husband left last Wed morning for N.O. She said he called her long distance & said it looked pretty good to him. So maybe it doesn't mean over seas after all. She said they thought he was going to get his orders changed up until the last, but didn't go through. She said Col. Longsdale, I guess
