Burlington, IA April, 1943 My Dearest, Received your letter of Apr 1st and entered your check on bank book stub. I am doing the best I can with the finance. It seemed like we have a lot of them doesn't it? I haven't rec'd the bill from Baker for the repair job, but know it will be plenty. Ruthie is still working on the basement. It was sure black. Will be glad to get the smokey mess cleaned up. I had a very busy day again today. I gave Margaret Clark a permanent, She asked all about you. She is quite a girl. It has been very chilly today & I see the paper says continued cold. I am still shoveling in the coal. Claude called last nite and wanted to know how every one was. He hasn't heard anything from Frank since he was sent across. He said he might be up Sunday. I guess he must get pretty lonesome. We haven't heard anything from Van's since they were here. Kids are all O.K. but play so hard, that by might they are worn out
