Burlington, Ia Feb. 2, 1943 Tues. nite 9 bells My Dearest:- Well, I guess the old groundhog saw his shadow today all right. It has been a beautiful day. It thawed quite a bit today. The trouble is, before it can thaw all the snow off, we get some more. My foot doesn't pain me especially, but it is terribly swollen and can't begin to wear my shoe. I didn't go down to work today and am not going tomorrow either. I plan to go down thursday morning though. I hope I can go. I have been on my foot quite a bit today and it did swell a lot. I am going to try to stay off of it more tomorrow. I kept Clifford and John R both in bed all day today. They coughed all night last nite. I hardly slept at all. I never heard them cough so hard. They cough until they gag. I do hope they will sleep tonight. No word from you today. I do hope you arrived all O.K. I will probably get a letter from you tomorrow. I hope so. Do you still have your cold? I hope it is much better. Winona Alfred called me up tonight. They are back in Burlington. She didn't seem to know whether they were going to stay or not. She's the same old girl. She hasn't been working herself since last
