Burlington, Ia Feb. 1, 1943 My Dearest:- I am wondering if you aren't in Ann Arbor by now? I hope so anyway. It is 6:30 and we have had our suppers and John R is practicing his music. I am sitting in a chair with my leg propped up. I have been in bed most of the day. The Dr was here this morning and treated my ankle & rebandaged it. It swelling has gone down a lot. However it is still swollen quite a bit. He didn't want me to be on it any today, but will try & be on it tomorrow some. Gladys stayed and did up all my work this morning, so that helped like everything. She left around eleven o'clock. I kept Clifford home from school, because he has such a cold and coughs so hard. John R coughs until he gags too. I had another bad thing happen this morning. One of the girls in the apt. came running down & said the frigidaire was smoking and I said for heaven sake go & pull the plug. I suppose the motor is burned up. I called the I.S.U. and a man came out. He said the motor looked pretty bad. I would think anyone would know enough to pull the plug when the motor was smoking wouldn't you? Well it is first one thing after another. The furnace was getting too many Clinkers in it & called Kirkpatrick & he came & tried to regulate it this morning. He was here about 2 hrs. Cost me $1.50. He is coming back tonight to see if it is working all O.K.
