Burlington, Ia Feb., 9, 1943 My Dearest:- It is rather late, but I will try to stay awake long enough to write you a few lines. I rec'd two letters from you today. One written on Sunday. Sorry you were so lonesome. I get that way too. I hope it won't be long until we can be with you again. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you were sent somewhere for the duration and we could be with you? Oh that would be simply grand. Honey, do I have to file again for my homestead exemption. Where and how do I go about it? When does it have to be done? I was sure surprised about the shoe rationing coming on so suddenly. I know I can get along but am wondering about the kiddies. I believe they wear more than three pair a year. I had been intending to get Clifford a pair soon too. Oh well, I guess we will get along some way. I am mailing you a box of things for Valentine's day soon. Hope you will enjoy it. Grandma Calhoun & I together made them. I had to work late tonight. I didn't get home until 9:30 tonight and I am pretty tired. Claude came to see your mother today. I guess he has Tuesday's off instead of Sunday's now. He has changed his job some. He says he likes
