Mademoiselle Beaute Salon (Burlington, Iowa Jun 20, 1943 Wed. 11:30 My Dearest: Didn't get your letter written last nite, so will try and write one before I go home. I was so tired I just couldn't keep awake. I worked yesterday morning and went home & did up the work & got supper ready and came back to work at 5 o'clock. So you can see how busy I am. I was just up to the hospital to see Ruth & she is no better. She still has hiccoughs. Every time she takes a thing to eat or drink they start up. They had Dr. Wayman examine her yesterday, but havn't come to any decisions as yet. I surely hope it isn't anything serious. I am pretty worried about it. They havn't taken any x rays yet. Mother Calhoun is feeling better & I rec'd a letter from you yesterday and read it to her last nite & at the end, you said give mother my regards & she said is that all he had to say about me? I guess he doesn't think I have been very sick. She is just like a child. You had better write a letter to her direct. For I feel like she is jealous of me. Don't say anything about it please. We had a terrible fire here last nite. The depot burned and three or four people are missing. One woman who was the telephone operator was one. I guess it burned
