Burlington, Ia. Jan. 17, 1943 Sun. pm 7 o'clock My Dearest:- I am at the Burlington Hospital writing this letter. We brough Ruth down to the hospital for a complete check up. She took bad last night and called Dr. Aid & he sent over some pain pills & gave her an enema. She has been throwing up all day long and no better so had Dr. Aid come over & he said he was afraid of appendecitis & advised us to go to hospital. I brought her in a taxi, as it is so icy, I was afraid to take the car out. They are fixing her up now & I am sitting in the sun parlor writing to you. The Hamffs called & asked us to go to S.S. with them this morning & so we did. Carol isn't feeling so well tonight. I am afraid she is taking the flu also. I greased her up good and put her to bed before I left. If it isn't one thing its two. I like the girls in the apt. very much. They keep it spotless. What do you think we can do as to the rent? Do whatever you can right away, as the time will be up next sunday. So write a protest & mail it right away. I can't understand why we have to have our rent cut now, after this long a time.
