Burlington, Ia. Jan., 11, 1942 My Dearest Daddy: - No word from you today, but will surly get one in the morning. I am hoping. Your letters are all that keeps me going. After all they are all that matters. Do you feel that way about me? Honey, I have missed you more ever this time. I just can't get used to you being away. I have been ironing tonight, and it is pretty late but will write a few lines. Ruth is better, but not able to do much yet. your mother isn't so good. Her cough has tightened down and she still has that pain in her side. I can't understand how she got it. It will soon be a week and she is getting pretty discouraged. I do hope she will soon be better. It is such a worry. I put my add in for a housekeeper again tonight, but don't look for many replies. I guess she is quitting sat night for sure. It sure puts me on a spot. I don't know what to do. As soon as you get to Anarbor, if rents are fairly reasonable, I might try to rent the house & come up. I might as well, don't you think? Honey, do you think we can keep up everything on your salary and what the house brings in? I have been trying to figure, and I am afraid it will be a pretty close shave. Kids are all fine. Hope they won't get what grandma has. How is your cold? And how is Winnie getting along? I'll bet she was glad to get there wasn't she? What is the dope on the new job? How long will the school be for? Could you
