We had an orientation lecture this morning. That means "getting yourself straightened out or acclimated". It was by Col Young - the commandant of the school. Then later an address of welcome from Dean Stason of the Law School. Then some drill. Ted, my roommate, was selected by the instructor as 1st Sergeant of our company (Class 9) and I was chosen as Platoon Sergeant of the 2nd Platoon of the company. So we had gym and went swimming after wards for a half hour. I was real tired but guess it won't hurt me. Then we went down and got his car and drove up to the school. Then dressed for Retreat. I had to form my platoon and report them to him and he to the Company Commander and he to the Officer of the Day. Then stand at salute while "To the Colors" is played. We have bugle calls but all played on the loud speaker by phonograph record. Then we ate supper and had to attend a training film from 7-8 and then went in Ted's car out to the apartment he finally found for his wife. She and her son and daughter have been in Chicago with her brother and Ted has been almost frantic to find them a place. I helped him carry some stuff from the car upstairs to the apartment. She will come tomorrow. Our lights have to go out at 10:45. Must close. Love & kisses, Pappy.
