Camp Forrest, Tennessee Friday Jan 8, 1943 Dearest: Finally arrived. What a trip and what a worry. I got up at 5:30 and someone had drained practically all the gas out of the car but had enought to get to the gas station. Then ate some breakfast and started at 6:00. Still dark. I got along just swell until 11:00 and then I had a flat tire. No tools. So drove a short ways and into a little town and right up to a tire station and they patched it up real good for me. While waiting, I ate dinner. Stewed chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, biscuits, butter, coffee & pie for 25 cents. It is a back wood town named "Big Sandy", Tenn. The road has certainly been very winding and up hill and down. I came this way because it looked shorter and also missed
