Burlington [GA?] July 19, 1942 10 P.M. My Dearest: - Just a few lines before I turn in for the night. It has been a hard day. I went to sunday school and Church & Cliffie & Carol stayed for church with me. They were real good. That young [Stiefel?] gave the sermon and did a spendid job too. I guess Rev Smith is on his vacation. I hurried home & got us a bite to eat & took the kids over & left them with Phillip. It was a very lovely service. They had lots of beautiful flowers and really Mrs Ward looked lovely. Looked so much younger than she was. It started to sprinkle just as we left the undertaking parlor, but quit before we got to the cemetery. Poor Ruth took it so hard I feel awfully sorry for them. Ruth has to go down town to help settle up the affairs in the morning, so Marilyn Satterwaite is coming over and stay with the kids. I had a good rest from four o-clock until seven this afternoon. I read the kids the funny's & sunday school papers & fell off to sleep. I had quite a little nap between spells. Then we got a bite to eat & then we went out to the park to hear the band concert. It was pretty good. We took Veda & Marilyn with us. Marilyn played hide & seek with the kids & they had a big time. It was quite chilly out there. It has cooled off real nice tonight. The people that rented the apt upstairs
