Burlington, Ia July 19, 1942 Sun. Morn 7:45 My Dearest: - I just got called out of bed by the phone ringing. It was Grade & told me to be over at their house at 12:45. Boy am I ever dreading that. I will be a wreck by the time it is over. It is raining this morning. I do hope it stops by afternoon. It is grand & cool though. That is a big relief. I was sleeping so soundly. I expect I would have slept until nine o'clock if the phone hadn't awakened me. Didn't get any mail from you yesterday. I suppose there will be several there monday. I don't know what to tell you about coming down to look things over. Of course I can't come for two weeks yet, after Blanche gets back from her vacation. Don't you think it would be best for me to come on the train, or would we have to have a car to get around? Do you know someone there, that might loan you a car to get around in Just what is your opinion so far? Do you think it advisable for us to come? You know I want to be with you if I possibly can, but don't want to get into something I will be sorry for. How do you like the town of Tulahoma? Do you think we could find a place there? I had [illegible] send in to Texaco to have a route mapped out for me. Just sent it in yesterday. I had the car washed yesterday & greased and one of the head lights were out so had it fixed. I haven't had the breaks fixed yet. I must do that. I haven't been driving it much. I had a very busy day yesterday again. I haven't figured up my week yet, but must be pretty good. I didn't get through until seven o'clock last nite. It seems strange not to have hardly anyone around. The people that rented the apt. don't take it until a week from tomorrow. We will have this week to get it all cleaned up. And is it ever dirty?. I learned yesterday that this young man is a Jew. I kind of hate that, but guess it is
