Fri. [Friday] morn [morning] Mrs Ward died last nite about 10:30 The Funeral is sunday afternoon. Burlington, IA. [Iowa] July 16, 1942 My Dearest: - Received your letter with the picture and check today. Thanks so much. Thought I would get down to the bank to pay the note today, but didn't make it. I will try and get there tomorrow. I was so busy today. Took in $21.00 I never got home until 10:30. Just before I came home, Ruth called me and said they called from the hospital and said for the family to come down at once, so I guess her mother is pretty bad. Would be a blessing if she could go. Her mind has been off for several days. Mother and Dad stopped on their way home from Chicago today. They have been over there visiting uncle [illegible] and Emry's for a few days. Think they have enjoyed it. They are going on down to the Springs [town?] tomorrow I guess. Daddy, what do you really think I should do about coming before you find an apartment? Do you think we could find one? Are the schoolsall O.K. there? You know I want to come so badly, but want to do what is right about it. I talked to Gladys over the phone tonight and she is going to advertise for an operator through the Des Moines Register right away, so
