Burlington, Ia [Iowa] July, 15, 1942 My Dearest: - Rec'd [received] two letters from you today and was so happy to know you got a promotion you had it coming to you. Darn them any way. Just because you have the brains, they want to put it on to you. I hope some day we will get to the place you can tell them all what to do. I hope you will get your promotion as 1st Lt. [Lieutenant] right away. It would sure tickle me. Things may be going to break for you now. I surely hope so. you are deserving. I rented the apt. [apartment] tonight to that young couple I wrote you about. His name is Luvenberg. She is a Brooks girl, a granddaughter of the Brooks that lived down in the big green house on this street. Seems like a very nice couple. I will lose a few days rent on it, but will take a while to get it cleaned up. They will take it a week from Monday. I told them if they were permanent, I would wait on them for the week. So he paid me for a week in advance and starting a week from Monday. I thought by that time you would have the papers back to me. I had to buy some new curtains today. Think they are real pretty. Honey, do you think it is advisable for us to come down there without a place in view, or do you think we can find
