Burlington, Ia. May 17, 1942 [Sat?] 10:30 PM. My Dearest: Just a few lines before I hop into bed. I have had one nap in my chair anyway. It seems like I am always tired, that as soon as I sit down I am a goner. I had a very busy day. I think by the time I get back there I will really need a months rest. I think most of my customers are going to have their work down before I leave. You know how it always is whenever you see marks like that on a letter, you know it is where I fell asleep. I got the car this evening, all ready to go to Carlisle Barrack. I don't know yet, how much it will be, but I said he thought less than 20.00. He had to make a new platform for the [illegible]. He said someone had lost it. He put in patches, [boots?], + everything we would need. I was asking [Linny?] about another spare tire + he said he didn't have any, but could probably loan me one just to take along for emergency. I hate to do it because it will take up a lot of room in the back, but don't you think it would be better to have it for if I should ruin one tire, then I wouldn't have a spare and couldn't get one for have no money. Mr Thye said he thought the car was in good shape. He had to reline the brakes
