Burlington, Ia. May 3, 1942 12 bells My Dearest:- Just got home from McBrides. Ed + Marion stopped for me, so didn't have to take own car. We had a very nice time + a good supper. But, as usual, we missed you. I surely do miss you honey. Sometimes I think I can't take it anymore, but then I seem to go along from day to day. Nothing else to do I guess. This is the second letter I have written you today. The kids + I went out to see Don Driesel this afternoon. His leg is in pretty bad shape isn't it? I hope he will be able to get some compensation, for in my opinion, he will be crippled the rest of his life. He seemed to be so glad he got to go + see you said he could have stayed longer, but you didn't have much time + he was afraid he would bother you. He said you were working so hard. Now don't overdue it. His folks are surely pleased to have him home. Mary was home today. I guess she doesn't go [illegible] so very much. She is still going with that old man + Henry is mad he doesn't pay much attention to her. I can't understand her. You would think she could
