get something better than that. It was so cold this afternoon that I had to start a fire in the furnace again. The thermometer is down to 7 forty. I hope it won't freeze [illegible] garden. I have been thinking about digging up that little space where the trash burner + garbage cans sit + plant a little in there. Do you suppose it would be too shady there? I [illegible] [illegible] your mail in the letter this morning, so will do so this time. Tomorrow I have to go over to school + get my sugar rationing book. There is no school tomorrow, so [illegible] stayed out at Driesels tonite. They have there little [illegible] he is crazy about taking care of them. I am getting so sleepy I can't write straight, so will bring this to a close. [Illegible]. Lovingly yours, Dorothea + kiddies
