Burlington IA May 3 1942 Sun Maria 11 bella My Dearest:- I am sitting out in front of The [illegible] A Day shop writing this letter. We have been to sunday school + went down to the river bank to see the [illegible] [illegible] take out a big load of barges + watched them open the bridge form them to go through the kids sure liked that. It is so cold, it almost freezes you today. Had a big rain last nite. It just poured. Mr. Huffernan finished the lawn, and did an excellent job. The sod looks real nice this morning. I surely hope it grows all O.K. I was afraid it might have rained so hard it might wash the seed away. I paid him in full, so am practically broke again. It was $56.20. I believe it is worth it though. It is going to make the place look [illegible] better. I havn't seen Don yet. Thought we would drive out this afternoon for a while. John R was out all day yesterday + came in with Johnnie + Max last nite. He said they were [illegible] to Aunt Clara's yesterday. I didn't get home last night until the 7:30 [illegible]. I surely worked hard yesterday, had a couple permanents. I have a permanent booked for every morning next week. I hope they will come in pretty strong this month,
