be glad when they return. Aug 17th to Sept 17th- These have been rather lazy pleasant days. Long hours off duty spent for the most part out of doors walking along these beautiful roads and through the woods. Often guided by Capt Souder of B.H. 35. Have all been afflicted with the “prevailing complaint". Have done K.P. most of the time and quite enjoyed it. Explored St. P'erre a delightful village about 8 Kil from here and rode home with some Red Cross workers from Paris in the “Sacred Rolls Royce”. Never felt so dirty as we did that day when these immaculate people took us in - Abundance of blackberries. Still enjoying cold baths - Sept 17th - Went on as Day Sup. medical side today. Surely the fates are cruel to me, when I wanted so much to have the freedom of the wards. Tonight the big hospital trains came in and every one was on duty until late bathing and dressing the poor boys. Such horrible wounds. How can any one of us complain after seeing the brave acceptance which the boys display. Sept 20th- Miss Root Miss Young Miss Milulls and I walked to St. P'erre this p.m. had dinner and came home in a cart along a beautiful road we were driven by a small boy. Very pleasant day Oct 6th- Miss Milulls had a nice day in Nevers today. Plenty of time to explore all the nooks and crannies - Went up in tower of Cathedral - such a beautiful view - candlesticks! The joke was surely on us and we returned them as quickly as possible.
