lunch. After lunch went with Miss Thompson down to get tickets for Opera. Paris was very different from Aug - Very gay and very crowded. Dinner at Hotel Foyot - Try pear-stewed with hard sauce of rum & maple sugar. Shouldn't mention food and Thais the same day - Have never had so many thrills as I had that night - nor have I ever heard such a wonderful interpretation of Thais - Much impressed by Opera and the audience which was mostly in uniform - Played "Meditation" three times. Ballet splendid - Beautiful walk home in the moonlight - Dec 19 - Breakfast down town near the Odeum - Went to the Madeline which was having sand bags removed - Had lunch at Cafe Duval and went out to Place des Invalades - Were removing bags from Napoleans tomb. On our return to Hotel Regina met Miss Denison and had a fine visit but it was all too short and left me very homesick. She looks very well and goes to Belgrade next week. Took her out to B. H. 57 for supper then went back down town to see about tree decorations. To bed early. Dec 20th Took 8AM train for Nevers - No one would sell us tickets so just got on. Had a pleasant ride and delicious lunch in the diner - Reached Never at 1 and took bus out to muddy [Mars?] which seemed muddier than ever also much colder. Dec 22 - Went for a fine ride with Miss Browan today. Pretty good horses but it was a nasty day and I was in a nasty mood which vanished when I rode awhile. Dec 24th - The nurses all dressed in white and carried candles and sang carols in the wards - Adeste Fideles Noel etc. It was very pleasant in spite of the rain and looked very pretty. The boys seemed
