[August 18, 1918] My Dearest Bess, It is so hot here this evening that although it is 11 oclock. I have just come in from the porch. We get a fairly good breeze evenings from about 3 oc to 8 in evening it surely is hot. It leaves one about washed out. They had a dance here the other evening and a water melon party but I had no heart for the affair so I went to my room and dreamed of you. How am I going to pass the months that I must pass without you?. That is the question that comes to me daily or several times a day as I am working.
