[August 20, 1918] My Dearest Bess: I am rather taking a chance by writing to you as from what you say you will have an accumulation of this dope that I have been sending you. It would not be so bad in divided doses but to have it come all at once must be nerve racking. They had a little party here last night to present our C.O. with some insignia of rank and after that a dance. These people down in this country dont seem to know any other form of entertainment except dancing. They do dance well but as I do not dance at all it is rather dull although
