[21 August, 1918] My I have a few minutes this morning before work and I will improve it by writing to my best girl. I walked up to the top of one of these hills or young mountains last night and witnessed the finest sunset I ever saw. There are ravines cut in the hills and the play of colors is something grand. All the colors of the rainbow. I am not contented though. If I were with you I think my happiness would be complete I came in about nine and we sat on the porch until 11 and then went to bed. The bedding was still hot from the day and it felt like taking a sweat
