[August 27, 1918] Tuesday Morning. My Dearest Bess: I went up along the creek last night with the fellows for a walk. It is rather rough up there and I used my imagination and thought of the time when the game was plentiful here. It must have been some country. We will come down here some time when this thing is over and take a look around. When I came back I had fully intended writing a big fat letter to you but I had to go over and do an appendix as there was no one else around So when I came back it was late and I went to bed dropped to sleep and the next thing
