March, 19, 1942 Dear Dad and Mother, Well I suppose by the time this letter reaches you it will be spring in Iowa by the calendar tho not by the thermometer. I spent all day yesterday on K.P. from 1:30 in the morning until 7:15 in the evening. I good day what? I stand it much better than lots of the fellows tho. This may be the last time for a long time I'll hit it or there might be once more. I got your box from home. Gee did it taste good. In fact everyone that it was good, I didn't get much of it but Ive shared in several other fellows boxes already. It really got roughed up in mailing and as I just got it yesterday it must have sidetracked somewhere. Thanks a million Mom. I haven't had a letter from you for a week. Our mail is all mixed up since we moved. I'm still the only one of the new bunch that's lined up for school. I go back to my old barracks to see the fellows often its about 3/4 of a mile from where I am now. From all I hear we will start to school Monday morning. They go in shifts from 6 A.M. till 2 P.M. or from 2 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. I believe I'd rather have the second
