April 8, 1942 Dear Dad & Mom: The dust wont blow for a few days anyhow it is really raining down here. The grounds are a sea of mud, remember how Arkansas looked in 1937, red mud all over the [paning?] and everything thats how it is here now. Wearing my new overshoes and raincoat. Got soaking wet yesterday and today we were all dismissed early from classes because we were so wet. I think we'll get paid this weekend I surely hope so havent been paid as yet. Did I tell you one of our instructors used to teach in Waverly. He knows Maurice Michalson and and Ive seen him referee lots of basket ball games his name is Aikens. Just did a big laundry it looks like for a family of five. Ive never sent laundry out as yet a true gentelman saving a little. The fellows have lots of fun in our barracks practical jokes it's true but anything for a
