April 22, 1942 Dear Dad & Mom: Mom I hope you are having a lovely Iowa spring day for your birthday it is very nice here. I haven't anything yet to send you but when I can get to town in the daytime I will. I saw one of those magnifying glasses like you want in a store but it isn't open Sundays. I got thru the hydraulic phase and have started on propellers, the technical terms have my head spinning most of the time. I dont know yet what my grade was but it isn't as good as my last I'm sure. All grades fell off as you just can't get it in the shortened time. It's all work and no play now. Yesterday we had two fire drills and a dental inspection to take up our time also we had to get fresh linen. We get new sheets & pillow cases every Tuesday. Would you please send me about six pairs of broad cloth shorts if I have that many decent ones or maybe the others would be better, they might be easier to wash. Don't buy any new ones I think I have some I've never worn haven't I. They have only given [be?] two pairs and it's kind of an inconnevinece to have to wash most every night. I expect they'll give me some more later on. Got your nice letter yesterday gosh it was a long one. Glad your trip went okay and you have no trouble. I'll bet Aunt Ethyls house is pretty & spic & span. I would have like to have been there. I'm glad Grandma is feeling well. Boy I wish I had as many little pigs as Ralph but dont think we'll have much luck, we haven't so far anyway with sows. Ill bet you couldn't recognize Uncle Raymonds place after those hustlers have been working on it I surely hope
