Dear Dad & Mom: Just a note tonite to let you know I'm still over here & getting along fine. I got a [box?] from [Aunt Jennie?] today, candy gum, mints etc. Very nice of her to remember my birthday alas a letter from Ricky Bayle who remembered it was my birthday Aug. 2 - I think I'll have to get up at 4 in the morning and help service a plane taking off at five. I'm glad if I do start doing something but all our planes still [are all?] here so I may be so [illegible] away for a while. Just starched and steamed and boxed my underwear and [sox start?] the marrow clean as a whistle. It is [illegible] off already and just getting dark, in fact so dark I can scarcely see to write this so I'm hurrying. the day room is so full I can't get near it.
