I soon will have been in the army six months and it hasnt seemed so long. It is quite monotonous here, no town to go to and little to do. Plenty to read tho and games. there is a theatre here but it only holds just a few. Im glad we have started to work some it makes the time pass quicker. Had a small fire here today, a little building down at the other end of the field, used for storage I think but nothing was in it so the loss was slight. Had a lot fun yesterday running a big caterpillar tractor. Our crew chief told a couple of us to go get it as it has an air compressor on it to blow up tires. I supposed a man always went with it to run it but when I got there the mechanic in charge of the shop said "Okay take it away, with a few trials & experiments I got it going and got along fine with it. It's fun to run any kind of a machine, after being on foot so long. We have a lot of fun evenings singing have a couple of good guitar players & some fine singers so we sing, maybe not good but loud. Still havent got a letter since aug. 1st, maybe I will tonight at mail call. Love Johnny.
