August 13, 1942 Wendover, Utah Dear Dad & Mom: Got the papers yesterday, thanks, I sure got a lot of razzing from the fellows in my barracks. Local boy makes good, Graham writes of army life etc. Wow, whoever gets a write up they are sure in for a lot of good natured ribbing. I just started to unroll them and a guy saw my picture, quick as a flash he had the papers and the letter was read aloud, quite eloquently too. I didn't see it until everyone had read the darn thing. Had eight cards from the church yesterday, from Ernie Meyers, Harry Oleson, Mrs. [Germane?] Grimes, Harold Huntzinger, W. W. Pritchard, Chas [Howards?], John [Durschers?] Mrs Schneider I enjoyed them thank them when you see them. I had just written to Rev. [Ukina?] thanking him for his letter of a couple of months ago, the first of the week. It has been very hot here the last two days sun really bore down but has it been cool nights we go to sleep under one blanket but along the middle of the night you can hear everyone pawing around for another blanket or comforter. It acts just like indian summer at home and I guess that will come before we know it. I have had a show going streak, have gone every nite for three nites. "Pardon My Sarong" Punk. "Dr Broadway" very good "Cross Roads" good. It only costs 15¢ out here so it isn't so expensive and it's about
