Sept. 2, 1942. Wendover, Utah Dear Dad & Mom: Got your letter yesterday started last Friday it was really a dandy Im sorry the fair wasn't better and the weather more favorable. Poor pap I thought he had outgrown his hay fever an maybe it is just a kind of cold. From the reports there must have been a fine showing of livestock especially in the baby beef show. It is not so cold here the last few nights as it has been but still [coal?] the day [illegible] continue [illegible]. Several more fellows whom I knew at Sheppard Field have drifted in here they are not in my squadron but I see them occasionally They are in a repair depot squadron and seem to travel about where they are needed. We had a clothing salvage today the first since I have been in the army. I turned in two pair of shorts, 2 pr casual socks, 2 pr cotton sox all that the army has every given me I have bought sox and worn the shorts you sent me from home. We just turned in the stuff I dont know when we will get the new stuff. Also I turned in my fatigue pants which were worn out. We will start to wear our [illegible] uniforms soon. That is when we go any place otherwise we just wear our work clothes. Our airplanes are all in flying status now in pretty good shape except [any?] which will soon need the engines changed on it. It is quite a job but is good experience. Yesterday our work was mostly refreshing & ailing the [illegible]. I was just looking at the "Horseman" which a friend of mine gets and saw where Guy Hause had raced in several places with only fair success. I recognize the names of the horses Bobby B, Ian McKinney
