Sept. 3, 1942 Wendover, Utah Dear Dan & Mom: Another hot sunny day I dont know why I say this because thats what every day is out here. Just came from dinner we had another good meal breaded veal cutlets, mashed potatoes, gravy red kidney beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce salad, brown bread & sliced peaches. (Good cooks were back on) One of these days soon Ill try and get my picture taken in my new leather sheep lined clothes and send it to you. I look about like an eskimo with the big boots and all. Ill bet they will feel good along this winter it gets cold out here or [illegible] or Colorado or wherever we are then. Didnt have much work last night just serving planes and a little electric motor which operates the cool flaps which cool the engines. had to be replaced it wasn't much of a job. The squadron passed out a few ratings yesterday. Several of us made B.F.C. it surely isn't much bit it may be a start. The major doesn't believe in giving out ratings promiscuously everyone must be B.F.C. before he can be [illegible] and so an [illegible] the line. It only pays four dollars a month more and you wear one (1 only) stripe on your arms. However I was pleased to get it and hope I can get some more some day. I think it is more luck than anything else when you get a stripe. P.S This is the lowliest form of non commissioned officer, kind of a laughing matter I think. Last night one of the model plane builders (just a [illegible]) was flying his little plane and the thing went wild and crashed nose down into the ground it just riddled it He had probably worked a month or more building it and now it is completely ruined. It costs around 20 dollars to make one of them
